Tue, 07 Sep 2010 03:38:30 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.1 Using Featured Content Gallery http://gdscomp.com/2010/01/using-featured-content-gallery/ http://gdscomp.com/2010/01/using-featured-content-gallery/#comments Sun, 31 Jan 2010 03:02:21 +0000 Bob http://gdscomp.com/?p=2786 We add the Featured Content Gallery to peoples themes now and then and have to explain to them that adding the code is the easy part.  For every post displayed in the Gallery you need a nice, proper sized picture that you save in the WP media gallery.  You Upload the picture, highlight and copy the url to that image to the clipboard.  Then add a custom field to your post called “articleimg” and paste the url to your picture in.  You need at least 2 posts set up to be displayed for the Featured Gallery to work.  You can select a specific category for the display or specific posts by number.  We usually go with a category and just assign those posts to that extra category.  Then you can always remove that category from the post and it won’t display anymore.   The configuration page for the plugin has many options that have to be set up such as picture size and display options.  Also color selections of the data bar and text that gets displayed.  It takes a little doing but when finally setup it can be used to give your blog or website a real magazine or news site look.  It takes a little planning and photo editing skills beyond dropping the code into a page template.

Mini Mag Home PageMini Mag is a Magazine Style WordPress Theme we are developing with various page templates to give you many options. 

 We have integrated the Featured Content Gallery Plugin and created 2 different possible Home Pages.  Plus a few other special pages that can be used to highlight or feature certain catagories.  Plus full page templates to give you room for larger pictures or lots of information.  Some other page templates are also available but to show you is much easier. 

This theme was created using Artisteer and then modified.  We actually have 3 color versions in the works and will be putting download packages together next week.

We will release this shortly as one of our free themes but for now you can take a look at a Preview. 

This theme does require a little work configuring plugins and also editing the page template files to display the catagories you choose on your feature pages.  All done through the WordPress dashboard so its not that hard.
