New Online News Themes
Here’s a WordPress Theme that uses WordPress as an online news site or magazine. Designed to be used with a handy plugin called “Sideposts Widget“. With it you display posts from a featured category on the sidebar that can include a thumnail. The theme was designed with 3 columns with the left sidebar wider than the right. This gives the Sideposts Widget room to display a nice group of articles. Center column displays your other posts and the right sidebar can be used as you wish. Theme includes a full width page template and a page template to allow comments on pages you choose. Custom Error page with site index and customizable footer option. This theme could be tailored for use by clubs and associations that need to publish news and events for it’s members. Even businesses could take advantage of this theme as a full business website.

Keep your files safe
With all the mal-ware out there today you never know when you’re going to have to re-do your computer. Reformat your hard drive and re-install Windows. It happens all the time and you end up loosing all your pictures and music along with any documents and files you may have stored in personal folders. Do yourself a favor and get an External Hard Drive and start saving your stuff there. Your music, photos and anything else you save. This way if the unexpected system crash happens you’ll have all your files safley stashed away. The price of these drives has become very reasonable and worth the investment. You can find them at most local computer stores or find great deals here at Tiger Direct. Don’t loose it all put it on an external hard drive.

WordPress 2.9 Available NOW!
The devoted team at WordPress released version 2.9 today. The new version is packed with new features and upgrades. You can read about all the new stuff and download this latest release here. If you already run WordPress you should be able to upgrade automatically from your admin dashboard. You can also check out an introduction video here on WordPress.tv
New Artisteer Version Page Issues
One thing we found with the new Artisteer version 2.3 is that by default Pages allow comments. You can disable allowing comments when you create your page but then you still get the “Comments are closed” notice at the bottom of the page. What we do is create a new page template by copying the “page.php” file and renaming it “page-comments.php” . You have to add the following code to the top of the new page-comments.php file.
<?php /* Template Name: Page Comments */ ?>
Then we edit the “page.php” file and remove the following line.
<?php comments_template(); ?>
So now your default page template has no comments at all, and if you want a page to have comments you just select your new page-comments template when creating your page. We do this with many other themes also. Not only Artisteer.
