Setting up your home network is not as hard as you may think. All you need is a Cable/DSL Router to plug into your cable modem or other high speed Internet service. You plug the 
router into your cable modem just like it was a computer. After it negotiates with the modem and sets itself up you can plug your computer into one of the routers LAN ports and after your computer does a little negotiating you should connect to the internet. Routers normally will have 4 ports that you can plug computers into. With wireless capability you can plug in 4 computers or devices and also connect with Wireless Computers and Laptops. You can also plug your internet ready game system into your router or a Network Ready Printer. Routers are usually setup by default to do everything automatically so you normally don’t have to do any configuring. With the exception of wireless. If your Router is a Wireless Ready Router you will probably have to access your router’s setup screens and set up some parameters like security keys if desired. Wireless functions are usually off by default and you have to log in to the router and turn it on. Instruction for logging into your router were probably included with your router on paper or on a cd in PDF format. If not most manufacturers website have all you need.

Genki Announcements – WP Plugin

We found a nice little plugin that allows you to make a timed announcement and you can display it in a widget or at the top of your blog. Or with a little php code you can put it anywhere. You might think, well I can just use a text widget. Yea but, This nice little plugin lets you display your message for a duration of time and you also have the ability to show different messages to different level users. The top of the blog display may have problems with certain themes but the widget should work well with any. We used it as a widget and made it an “About Me” block with a picture even. Since the plugin works through the control panel giving you a spot to put your message, with html, we just uploaded a picture and pointed to it it the message.

Very Colorful WordPress Theme
Another leftover theme that got played around with and set up to be a personal weblog but didn’t get used. This is a theme that doesn’t have a header. The blog name and description appear in the top block of the sidebar. There is also a picture that you can overwrite with one of your own. Just upload a picture called mypic.jpg to the theme’s image folder. The picture there is 100×125 but you could go a little bigger if you wanted too. There is also some text you can edit in the sidebar1.php file. Its marked out where to edit.

All this theme needs are the widgets of your choice, your picture and a few words of wisdom and your ready to blog.
This theme was also made with Artisteer software. A piece of software that is fantastic for making your own WordPress themes, CSS templates and more!! We’ve been using it for a while now and wouldn’t be without it.

We had to make something new that wasn’t black. So here’s another WP theme template using a fixed background image and transparent sheet background.
We make the background fixed by editing the style sheet after we created the theme using Atristeer. That was the only thing we could think of changing that Artisteer didn’t have an option for.
The background image is one we had laying around from another project.
So download it and use it for free!! Just leave my link in the footer. It’s small.

This is another them I made using Artisteer. They recently released version 2.0 which gives you even more options and features to play with. I have made themes the other way before but using Artisteer gets you there much much faster. All in all the software is fantastic. As with any software you will discover little limitations and this is true with Artisteer, but, there are so many options that another alternative is always there! If you really want to develope your own themes for yourself, clients, or friends you really should check out Artisteer! We use it and I recommend it highly.
